What is an AB Cable?
An Aerial Bunched Cable (ABC) is an insulated overhead distribution cable in which the phase and neutral conductors are bunched together. The neutral acts as the load-bearing messenger and the phases are insulated with weather-resistant XLPE.
Benefits over bare overhead lines
Drastically lower power theft (insulated phases cannot be tapped illegally), fewer outages from line-to-line faults, reduced right-of-way requirements, faster and safer installation in congested urban and rural areas. AB cables are now the preferred overhead distribution method for most Indian DISCOMs.
Sizes manufactured
16 sq mm LT AB Cable for service connections and street lighting, 25 sq mm and 25 sq mm 3-core for residential colonies, 35 sq mm for medium-load distribution and 50 sq mm for heavy-duty mains and industrial zones.
Standards and testing
All AB cables are manufactured as per BIS standards. In-house testing covers conductor resistance, insulation thickness, high-voltage test, weatherability and UV resistance. Each drum is marked with batch and traceable to the production lot.
